This is a good idea! Having a #pragma does not break anything, allows for
other things (like custom character maps, character maps for currently
unsupported platforms and so on), and allows to evaluate new mappings without
any changes in the compiler.

(*) Regarding your request for macro names in the assembler starting with a
    dot (which was also in my TODO list): This is done and will be part of 
    the next release.
