... and we have my long time longed for completely "universal" Makefile, which can IMHO considerably help people setting up the project on the beginning.

I would be even thinking of writing a small tool that would set the default directory structure and copy the default, universal Makefile from e.g. $CC65_HOME/lib/cc65/default or something like that.
