Ok, but in this generality it has rather severe consequences: You will always have to uninstall manually because the old version are not recognized as "old" but as "different". Not adding the directories to PATH will cause trouble with unexperienced users. Recognizing just the stable release and the snapshot as "different" is easier, so you could have both installed but not two versions of each. The problem with the PATH environment variable remains, however. Regarding the installation as normal user: Since I don't want to spent another week on this problem, I will probably require admin rights for now.
