Sorry, I meant this of course. I just wanted to take down the archive, not the
whole list.

I don't know how the archive is organized and what happens exactly when new
mail arrives. This is exactly my point: I don't want to find out what happens
or better: I don't want to spend the time. 

The mailing list software is hypermail, maybe someone has an idea how it
organizes its data?
