Hi,

Just checked out the freeware version,
you should change in the ida.cfg file:
DEFAULT_PROCESSOR	= "M6502"

Note: this version does have searching 
(use alt-t first then ctrl-t to repeat)
but doesn't support wildcards/reg.expr.

I've uploaded the zip to:
