I was thinking of the variables that are used by the subroutines in LOWCODE.  It
is easier -- and runs faster -- to put their "personal" data with them in that
safe space than it is to make those routines be able to handle whatever kind of
memory-banking that they might encounter (in order to find their [possibly
hidden] data elsewhere).
