Glad that's clarified ;-) ...so like the LucasArts/Sierra style point and click games, but you say command line so maybe not? The other sort I'd though about was an RPG 'Dungeon Master' style game. We didn't get anything like that on the Atari, the C64 had quite a few TSR games (any favourites anyone?) and both C64 and the Apple had Bard's Tale! The one I liked best was 'Telenguard' by Avalon Hill, it had a nifty little fixed seed based random number generator that meant the the whole dungeon cube was based on the walls/room content being determined by a few bits in the byte, just feed in the XYZ co-ords and voila, a unchanging map!
