Am I mistaken, or does MS-DOS (and Windows 3, possibly also Windows 95
and 98) have a global "current working directory" for all processes?  When
one process changes the directory, it is changed for all processes.  I'd
call that inferior design.

That's exactly what the script I talked about does.  The operation is
pretty simple in Perl.
