As far as I understand you're refering to supporting subdirectories.
As I wrote in my original post I was probably to naive in believing
this would be possible.

However this doesn't invalidate my general ideas. Maybe it wasn't
obvious (or just to long):

The primary idea is to say a typical CBM system with the two devices 8
and 9 and plain vanilla DOS has two directories - namely the root
directory of device 8 and the root directory of device 9. So getcwd()
and chdir() are just there to jump between both. And the directory
names are probably just "8" and "9".

If more is archivable it would be great. If not than this is by no
means a showstopper for the whole idea.
