Read the book "Elementary Functions" by Muller. After that you should be able to build a calculator with minimal overhead. If you got the RAM consider tables. Given the crude resolution of vintage displays you do not need a lot of accuracy. If you are considering animation just remember to keep track of your transformations and compute from your initial state, or you will just compound errors.
