There were times when I too was surprised to find that although the C64 is for sure considered the "primary" cc65 target one finds stuff not implemented there. opendir() and friends is a similar example. Given the size and activity of the C64 community it's not clear to me why there's not at leat one volunteer for every API known to cc65 implementable on the C64 in a reasonable way - lseek() being an example for a problematic case...
