Am I alone in this thought? Would you expect to be able to fly an airplane, just because you have been used to driving a car? Please don't get me wrong, I'm sure that ca65 and/or the docs can be improved. But ca65 can do more things than most other assemblers so it is somewhat unfair to complain about its complexity. What could be done is to add more linker config files targeted for assembly programmers or add more documentation. One of the remaining problems is however, that if somebody has problems understanding the segment concept, he will still fail. Things have been improved over time. It is no longer necessary to manually add startup files when linking, there are easily accessible additional linker configuration files and so on. I'm sure there will be more improvements in the future, but I doubt that you can make ca65 as easy to use as a straightforward c64 assembler that generates binaries directly.
