[cc65] Question about writing assembler app for both C128 and C64

I want to create a loader program for CBM-Command that would determine the
hardware and run the appropriate version of the file commander or config
manager (it would be a small menu that could time out after say 5 seconds).
 I don't want to write it in BASIC, I want it to be in CA65 assembler.  What
I need to know is the following:

1) How to determine the current system.
2) How to configure the code so that it will load and run from the same
executable on both platforms
