Anyway, I solved it basically by re-checking out the clean source tree.

P. S. I think it could be nice to update the OS X part of the docs/ 
homepage. I use it on much newer OS X versions than you mention there,  
and since the linuxdoc tools' presence is no longer mandatory for a  
clean build, plus the default install goes to /usr/local - I have no  
problems with building and using it on that platform. I was also  
thinking of possibly setting up automated builds for OS X binary  
distribution if you are interested.
