I would prefer not to have just one operation timed. Benchmarks are already
problematic, and timing just one operation is even more. Ok, if you have
dozens of benchmarks timing dozens of different single operations that could
be useful to find slow code, but what I had in mind is something with more
general coverage.

cc65 does that too, if you call it with "--standard c89" or c99 :-)
