There is usually a reduction in code size, yes. The
degree of benefit depends on the programming style.
Programs with many small functions, especially if they
take parameters, benefit the most.

To put it another way, the benefit is not so much
"increase performance" as it is "reduce the
sensitivity of performance to programming style".
