Seems like the compiler I'm using is not placing the executable into the
current directory, but in the directory where the .c file lives. Odd.

Yeah, and another proof, how bad windows really is as an operating system. Not
executing a file just because it is missing! This would never happen in the
realm of the penguin:-)
