I'm not keeping the war going or anything, just interested in the
platform :) But C64 emulators have to have cycle exact emulation of
two computers (the disk drive is a full 1 or 2 MHz 6502 with ram, rom,
and I/O chips), and the video chip emulation is extremely complex as
pretty much every undocumented little quirk in it has been used by
programs. Throw in things like PAL emulation (actually emulates how a
pal system generates colours, not RGB...) and you need close to a 1
GHz PC to emulate a C64 at full speed. VICE even emulates how the data
bus acts when no chip is driving it, and a few other really obscure
things.

So far the only other platform I've discovered that requires this kind
of emulation accuracy is the Spectrum.
