You can find an implementation of this for the GB here:

You also had a similar solution in old DOS compilers that worked with
segmented memory.
So it's possible to generate code with automatic bank switching, but
IMHO it's a lot of work for very little gain.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone here have a cc65 project that
doesn't fit in memory?
