You can find an implementation of this for the GB here: http://gbdk.sourceforge.net/dgbfar.html You also had a similar solution in old DOS compilers that worked with segmented memory. So it's possible to generate code with automatic bank switching, but IMHO it's a lot of work for very little gain.
