mmh there was also a BTX-Decoder cartridge for the c64 that had its
own display controller (4096 colors aswell if i remember right) ...
that one was actually somewhat popular in germany.

however.... IMHO since we are going to include a seperate module for
each supported gfx-mode anyway, there is no reason not to define some
function in the API for setting the palette.... its a totally differnt
question though, if ever someone is going to implement support for one
of the rare modes ,=)
