        Is suboptimal. wrt exponent      could be made optimal wrt.
        processing (8 bit covered in     exponent processing
        2 bytes)


Especially on an 8 bit machine, this argument might be a significant one
if we mostly want to add or subtract values. With multiplication and
division, this might not be that important anymore.
