Code generation may change (and hopefully improve) from compiler version to
compiler version. Maybe this snippet from the announcement of 2.9.0 is
important:

  * Platforms:

    - Some small improvements for the Apple ][:

      o revers() should now work correctly (do nothing)

      o Binaries have an AppleDOS 3.3 header

So you will find above text in announce.txt in the same directory where you
unpacked cc65-win32-2.9.0.zip (it's not even hidden in the doc directory :-).
